The club would like to give all members and supporters a list update of where the club is currently at for 2021 season.
The club continues to work on building the best list possible and have coverage in all areas of the ground.
The first key part of your list is always the players you already have, to get commitments from your existing players is always a great sign of the direction you are going. This has been evident from the responses to the playing group when asked about 2021. We have already 37 players including Kaine Stevens, Tom Keough and Logan Hill re committed which should show members and supporters that the players do believe we are heading in the right direction and with a quality, experienced coach coming in to the program for the next two years the light at the end of the tunnel is clearly not far away.
Our depth will no doubt be a strong point for 2021 with the further development of our existing young list form 2020 and the emergence of the Under 18’s coming up to the senior squad for next year. On top of this we have already seen the arrivals of 5 key signing already for 2021 that will no doubt bring experience from high level football and strengthen our league side. We are still finalising a couple more exciting recruits that hopefully we can announce over the coming weeks to further add depth to our League side for 2021. You also add some talented local footballers to our training squad for 2021 and we have been able to get a few quality footballers that have been able to dominate in their teams and leagues this year as we look to unearth another Mitch Duval. One special mention which the club is delighted to have come to the club is a father son in Issac McCormick. Issac’s dad Simon McCormick played for the club and won the 2007 Best & Fairest. We welcome Issac and his family to Westies.
Disappointingly for our loyal Westies supporters, past player Sam Durdin has decided to pursue his football elsewhere in 2021. The Club did everything possible to bring Sam back to West Adelaide, but he has made the decision to pursue other opportunities.
With list’s every year, people come and go and that is the nature of the sport, We would like to pay tribute to a few that will not be with us in 2021 and thank them for their commitment and service to the football club, they have been able to help set the foundation of the next two exciting years for us and they should know they have played a part in that. These players are mentioned below on the Departures List.
Departures:
We will be saying goodbye to Jack Agostino who has decided to go back to Renmark to give back to the club that gave him his opportunity as a young boy. This will be a great endorsement for the club and the Riverland competition in 2021. Jack played in our under 18s winning grand final as well 52 league games. Even though he only played one game this year due to injury he was part of the leadership group and still had a positive impact on the players and the club. We wish Ago all the best in the future.
Will Mead has decided to go back and play local football. He achieved what he wanted to achieve from SANFL by playing League Football and wants to go back and play with his friends at his local club.
Gibson Turner won’t be returning to the club in 2021. We thank him for his contribution and wish him the best of luck in the future.
Dallas Willsmore has made the hard decision not to play SANFL football next year and head back to the family farm to assist there in 2021. It was a tough decision for him but family always comes first and we respect his decision and wish him all the best.
