Following a leadership and culture workshop at the recent camp in the Riverland, our Under-18 leadership group has been confirmed for 2022.
Adam Bunworth was overwhelmingly voted for as Captain of the team and will be supported by Tyson Coe (Vice-Captain), Finn Higham and Liam Bennetts.
Speaking about his appointment Adam said, “I’ve always aspired to be a leader within my football, particularly at West Adelaide, and I’m incredibly proud and humbled to have been given the chance to lead such a driven group this year. To be given the opportunity alongside Tyson, Finn, and Liam makes it all the more rewarding and we’re all extremely excited for the year ahead.”
“The team has gelled together really well both on and off the field during this preseason and it’s been great to see everyone buying in to what we’re trying to achieve this year. Obviously after last year, being knocked out in a prelim, we’re certainly looking to take it a step further and I think that’s really reflected by how hard the boys are working out on the track. We’re hungry, and the team can’t wait to get stuck into the season.”
Talent Manager and Under-18 Coach Paul Streatfield couldn’t be happier with the appointments. “It is always interesting to see how the playing group votes as it really reflects who they look up to and want to play for. We had a good discussion as a coaching group following the players votes and we didn’t need to change anything. These four men would have been our selections and they are all setting great standards throughout pre-season so far. This club means so much to these men and they are driven to be the best they can be. We have been fortunate to experience some great leaders in recent years and this group will continue that tradition on and will be well led by Adam who has developed and matured enormously in the past 12 months.”
There will likely be a further addition to this group over the coming month as the coaching staff continue to observe the behaviours of the U17 players and will look to appoint an emerging leader to join this established group.
