West Adelaide 9.3 (57) def by Woodville – West Torrens 18.14 (122)

Round 13 saw us face Woodville – West Torrens for the third time this season. Harry Lemmey and Dylan White departed the side to play reserves football and we welcomed Will Patton to our side for his first game of U18 football.

After a tight first half we found ourselves 9-points behind. Both teams had good patches of play but couldn’t finish off their work. Our effort was good and there were enough signs that if we could tidy up a couple of fundamentals then we would be right in it in the second half.

The second half saw the Eagles get the first couple before we were able to respond and after a goal to Lachlan Tredwell had cut the lead back to just 2 kicks. We conceded multiple goals late in the third quarter which was disappointing. At 3-quarter time I still thought we were a chance and encouraged the boys to keep taking the game on. After kicking the first we still had enough of the ball but conceded too often the other way. The final margin is disappointing but I know we will learn and be better if we get the chance to face them again.

Cade Kennedy finished with 28 disposals and 11 marks , Kobe Ryan had 7 clearances whilst Will Patton looked solid down back in his first match. Ultimately we didn’t have enough players contribute defensively with only 38 tackles laid for the game, and not enough accountability across the oval with too many uncontested possessions falling to the Eagles.

This was a disappointing outcome for us and we know we weren’t at our best. We pay full credit to the Eagles for the way they played and they were too strong across the oval. Our group have been good at responding this year and we will work hard this week to ensure a better performance next game. Round 14 takes us back to Prospect on Saturday against North Adelaide in another important game.
