Rachelle’s Rollercoaster Ride

West Adelaide star Rachelle Martin is still on a high after a whirlwind week which resulted in an unexpected AFLW debut for Adelaide on Saturday.

Initially preparing to line-up in the Bloods’ Statewide Super Women’s League opener against Sturt this Saturday, Martin was asked to step into action seven days earlier after being called upon by Crows AFLW coach Matthew ”Doc” Clarke.

The 20-year-old was last week signed by the Crows as one of two ”train-on” players together with South Adelaide midfielder Czenya Cavouras.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, Martin revealed it wasn’t until very late in the piece she found out she would be thrust into the fray against the Brisbane Lions in Queensland.

The feisty rover said she thrived in the slippery conditions in the Sunshine State, picking up 10 disposals and laying two tackles in her first Crows outing.

Martin, and Cavouras, will continue to train solely with the Crows until the AFLW season concludes, at which point she will return to Hisense Stadium full-time.

When not selected for AFLW duty, Martin will be available to line up with her beloved Bloods, who clash with the Double Blues at X Convenience Oval from 11.55am this Saturday.
