Great game had by our girls Sunday, we have now secured a finals berth for the first time in the SANFLW competition, with a very good 32-point win against a very tough Central Districts.
This was our fifth win of the season and close to our best, we were able to hold the opposition to 1 goal for three quarters and do a lot of attacking ourselves.
We had a very good second quarter kicking three goals, Rachael “Killa” Killian coming back from injury scoring 2 goals, we did have opportunities to kick more but couldn’t finish off.
Our backs were again very good with, Maddi Newman & Keeley Kustermann running well off half back, we even had Maddi sneak off HB and head into our forward line a kick goal, Hannah Scholar again was very serviceable and another one of our young pups Connie Dupois playing her best game, both Niamh Davis and the skipper Lauren Rodato beat their opponents all day.
Once again Kate Walsh was outstanding in the ruck, this week she was assisted well by Chelsea Biddell, who had a big influence on this week’s game, her marking was a feature of her game.
Westies had winners all over the ground, however the two best players were Zoe Venning and Abby Ballard, both these players were hard at the ball all day and gave our outside runners plenty of opportunities. Another big bonus for us this week was the performance of Stevie Lee Thompson, she has started to find her feet in our team, her contribution on and off the oval has been fantastic.
We head off to Thebarton next week to take on Norwood who again had another draw, this time against Sturt. We haven’t yet beaten Norwood in the SANFLW, next week would be a good time for it to happen, with the pressure off now about us playing finals footy, we can go out and have fun and enjoyment.
