Needing to win to move to second spot our girls put up a very good effort however went down by 18 points in the end. Our girls got a taste of what finals footy could be, it was a very hard contest with both teams not allowing each other any space and both teams were wasteful in front of goals.
We again had good players all over the ground, however we didn’t have enough. When we did move the ball quickly we looked good and we had South chasing, we just didn’t do it often enough. I thought throughout the game we were intimidated by the opposition which is something we have done to other teams this year. The onballers held their own sharing the clearances, we were served well again by Rachelle Martin, her second & third efforts were very good. Keely Kusterman again showed her skills and was very good at half back, Olivia Smith was again a very solid contributor, her work ethic is great and she is always putting the team first.
Westies had many contributors, Maddi Newman, Mel Elsegood, Kate Walsh, Zoe Greer and the skipper Lauren Rodato, however it wasn’t good enough to get over the line. We now move onto Centrals this week where we need to win to consolidate ourselves in the top 4, we will need to have some hard discussions at the selection table this week with players available to play after recovering from injury.
