Last minor round game for season 2020 and already securing a finals berth, this game was used as an experimental one. We used this to try players in different roles and positions. South are a very good side and our battles with them have been very good and strong this one was not much different. Unfortunately we couldn’t get the job done, however we match them for most of the game, we didn’t help ourselves throughout the game. We won the game clearances and this was done without our number 1 ruck Kate Walsh. Kate was managed during the second half.
We had several more inside 50’s but wasn’t able to capitalise, we take the positives and we move onto this week’s finals. One of our themes this year has been WE not ME and it was no more evident than at the start of this week’s game, during our warm-up Georgie Gray experience some discomfort with her leg and she didn’t feel it could get her through and so she pulled out and was replaced by Scarlett Griffiths, this was a true act of WE not ME. Our two best players this week also typify the WE not ME theme.
One travels 3hrs to each training session and the other travels 2hrs to train with us, Ashlea James BOG performance was outstanding her hardness at the ball her endeavour not to allow an easy possession was fantastic and her partner in crime this week was Abbie Ballard, coming off a week’s break Abbie was fantastic, what she lacks in pace she makes up in every other facet of the game. Another solid performance from Zoe Venning, Zoe Greer & Rachelle Martin in the midfield, Chelsea Biddell has hit some good form at the right time, with a very good performance at CHB and in the ruck.
Minor rounds complete we now focus on our first finals series, Norwood is coming off two good wins so we will need to be at our best. The squad will be training at Thebarton on Friday night to acclimatise to the ground and surroundings, thanks to the clubs management for arranging this. We will be doing our very best to ensure we can advance to week 2 of the finals.
