After a hard fort win last week against Eagles, Westies came up against a very tough Sturt team. Sturt started well and were very determined to take away our space and try to take away our weapon of running and transitioning quickly from one end to the other. This only last for a half of footy.
We had a very good tussle with Sturt in the ruck, but once again a superior performance from Kate Walsh enabled our onballers 1st option and Westies came away with the clearance win on the day.
Our 3 wingers were very good, Charlie, Emma and the return of Olivia Smith gave us good run and their setups at stoppages were very good. Our back six was also very good again, led by our AFLW star Madi Newman her elite kicking skills were on show and she continually delivered the ball to our runners enabling them to break lines and get into our forwards quickly.
Chelsea Biddell was outstanding up forward, she competed well on the ground and in the air. Mel Elsegood had another solid game finishing off with a couple of goals. Kelley Kusterman off half back was another solid performer, our tackling was fierce all over the ground, and the two stand outs in this area were Zoe Greer & our best player Rachelle Martin. Rachelle had another outstanding game, her work rate all over the ground was outstanding. We had good players all over the ground it was a great team effort, it was great to see our AFLW All Australian Stevie Lee Thompson in a Westies jumper running through the middle of the ground causing havoc, and it was very good to watch. Big game this week against South, a win and we move to outright second.
