After three seasons our women’s captain Lauren Gee (nee Rodato) will be hanging up the boots. Lauren has been a strong and determined leader and we have been extremely lucky to have her captain our team.
“I have been lucky enough to be part of the West Adelaide family for 3 seasons now and even though it hasn’t always been easy, I can honestly say that I have loved every minute of it.”
“The time has come for me to finish my playing career to pursue the ultimate dream of starting a family.”
“Over the past 3 years, our team has developed into one that is passionate, hardworking and incredibly determined, and although we didn’t make it to the big dance this year, we did create history for the Club by playing in a Prelim final for the first time.”
“I will be forever grateful that I had the opportunity to Captain the side for one last time during this historic moment and it is a memory that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
“I have also been fortunate enough to make some very special lifelong friends which consist not only of my teammates but also coaching staff as well staff from within the West Adelaide administration. This is the greatest gift of all and is the reason I will stay connected to this great Club for many years to come.”
“Finally, I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone at the Club for making Westies a place where I have always felt comfortable, supported and encouraged to do my best – it’s been a home away from home and I will continue to be involved in some capacity in the future.”
SANFLW Coach Mark Moody said, “When I look back on my first year as coach at Westies, I think how lucky I was to have worked with one of the best leaders ever to pull on a SANFLW jumper.”
“Lauren is a true leader, she leads from the front, and she is very passionate about her footy, the club and womens footy in general. She is a very hard defender, her opposition definitely know when they have stood her in a game of footy.”
“Lauren’s qualities on the field are out done by those off field, she is very much family orientated, she is a very hard worker and I know she is a respected friend.”
“I feel honoured to have been able to work with her this year.”
The West Adelaide Football Club thanks Lauren for her outstanding service to the club and wishes herself and her family all the best in the future.
