This week saw us play league leader Norwood at home. Norwood have only lost 1 game this year and it was to Westies in round 1.
Our girls were very determind to make it two losses, however it wasn’t to be, and we went down to Norwood by 10 points. The game was played in 2 halves, Norwood were dominating in the first half and Westies stepped it up in the second half to wrestle back control, however the gap was too large for us to get the win.
This week we made 7 changes to the team that loss to Sturt the previous week, we got our state U19’s back Lauren Young & Zoe Venning, and both girls contribution was outstanding. We also got 2 of our Crow girls back, Ailish Considine & Chelsea Biddell. Ailish was again a standout, her contribution for the entire game was outstanding, and she was very instrumental in the last quarter in peppering the goals and repeat 50 forward entries. Chelsea was very good in the ruck this week, her second half was very good. Our new recruit Sarah Dargan was very good in the second half of the game, she was one of the main reasons why we got back into the game in the second half, and the weekend showed us what Sarah is capable of doing. This week also seen the return of our Vice Captain Abbie Ballard from a serious ankle injury, Abbie played predominantly up forward, however she did have sometime in the middle in the second half, she demonstrated what we had been missing in the earlier rounds from a midfield perspective.
We were also very excited to have another debutant Tiana Fernandez play, Tiana is from our academy, we are very impressed with her development this year. Tiana was asked to tag an influential player within the opposition forward line and did an outstanding job, she executed 5 tackles and offered some good run from HB, it was a great debut.
We now have 3 games left for the season, 3 wins are needed for us to play finals footy. This week’s game against Centrals will be tough, Centrals are the big improvers this year however we go into the game with confidence noting how we finished the game against Norwood. Big weekend for our club this weekend.
