With our second game in the space of a few weeks against the eagles, we knew we would be in for a hard slog, and we would have to compete all day to find a win. This certainly was the case, and a game in which we felt as a collective group we didn’t play our best footy, but showed we can still compete with quality opposition and show great character to scrap out a win.
It was a delight to have Mick Mattingly in the side for his first run of the year after spending 12 months on the sideline with an ACL injury. Since being recruited to the club he has impressed and led the way with his professionalism and dedication to the footy club.
Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve put an importance on being strong in the contest, and then move the footy with smart decisions. Something we feel is still a work in progress. So to be 5-1 across the first 6 weeks and still have growth areas to work on is very pleasing.
We had many solid contributors across the day, Clayton Gay impressed and is getting better and better as the weeks roll on collecting 20 touches and kicking 3 goals
Sam May returned from injury and was his relentless self, along with his fellow defenders Luke Redfern and Kenny Karpany mopping up plenty of footy.
Over the last 2 weeks Cade Kennedy has captained the side and has raised the bar with his performance which would please the supporters. Frane Babic was dominant in the ruck and continues to show his development every week. Riley Corbett again showed his presence out on the footy field, having a good day and continues to be the happiest man in football which creates a great environment for our boys.
All in all another pleasing performance and one that will take huge confidence out of moving forward. The strange reserves fixture sees us playing the eagles again after the bye weekend and we know we will have to improve on some areas if we are looking to stay on the winners list.
With the earlier game this week, we appreciate the support from everyone who made it. We hope we can continue to show you our future is bright with some talented boys in our squad.
