Good Friday was another week to travel away and test ourselves against a very strong opposition in the Eagles, and again the boys rose to the occasion coming out on top.
We started the day welcoming Riley Corbett and Charlie Pridham in for their first game for the season, it wouldn’t have taken long for supporters to see why we brought in Riley this year as his physicality and sticky hands were on display early. Charlie another product of our COE graduates of last year settled in comfortably also in defense.
Having a couple of scratchy starts over the first few rounds, the importance of getting out of the blocks early was key for us particularly against the Eagles who can impact a game quickly with pressure, use of the footy and ability to hit the scoreboard. We came to play right from the get-go kicking the first 4 goals, and didn’t look back from there and ending the day with a 7 goal victory.
The atmosphere amongst the playing group is fantastic at the moment with everyone, the collective buy in to what we are trying to implement and teach has been great. The team performance coincides with some individuals that have started the season very strongly.
Again, Charlie Allan and Mitch Maguire impressed in the middle combining for 70 possessions, along with young Cade Kennedy who gets better and better every week.
Matt McKenzie and Riley Corbett dominated in the air and both hit the scoreboard. Clayton Gay impressed and showed his a future talent for the club. Chamberlain worked hard and set us up with clean ball use out on the wing and the defenders withstood the Eagles across 4 quarters.
Overall it was another great win and another great result in showing us the depth and talent we have within our squad.
Go Bloods!
