WEST v CENTRAL
Round 3 was the SANFLW Indigenous round and we were up against a winless Centrals. The game started very scrappy with both teams hard at the ball and not making ground to either end, Centrals got some lucky breaks early and were able to capitalise. Too many times throughout the first half we were wasteful in front of goals, the scoreboard could have reflected differently had these been converted.
Trailing by 5 points at half time, we were very much still in this game, however within 7 minutes, Centrals blew out to a 23 point lead and looked like they would run away with the game. But the switch was turned in the second part of the 3rd quarter, with recruit Beatrice Devlyn & Abbie Ballard getting consecutive centre clearances and setting up goals which saw us go into 3QT just 2 points down. The third quarter saw 8 goals scored between both teams, which was very entertaining for SANFLW footy.
The final quarter was set up to be a thriller, both teams again worked hard. Centrals scored first, but we worked very hard into the wind and scored twice to take the lead for the first time all game. Westies again peppered their goal front without scoring, whilst deep in Westies forward line and late in the game a questionable anti-density rule was called and the ball transferred to Centrals where they scored took the lead again and never looked back.
Final score WAFC 6.6 42 def. by CDFC 8.4 52
