The West Adelaide Football Club would like to announce another recruit to the club in Lucas Meline.
Lucas is a versatile, 191cm midfielder who has the ability to push out onto the wing, play off half back or even push forward. Lucas is known for his clean hands and composure under pressure as well as his ability to break lines with pace and penetrating kicking.
When speaking about his football background, Lucas explained he moved to Canberra for University in 2016 and was a member of the GWS Giants Academy.
“I split my time between playing for GWS Giants and the Canberra Demons in the NEAFL, and also NSW/ACT Rams in the U18s National Championships.”
“I was a member of the GWS Giants 2016 NEAFL premiership team and the NSW/ACT Rams Division 2 National Champions side.”
“From 2017-2019 I continued to play for Canberra Demons in the NEAFL until this year when the NEAFL competition did not go ahead due to COVID-19. I was able to move back home to Leeton and played in the Riverina Championships for my home club Leeton-Whitton Crows.”
Lucas noted the high standard of football in the SANFL as one of the reasons why he wanted to move to SA.
“After speaking with the club and new coach Brad Gotch, I felt like there was a lot of opportunity for me at West Adelaide and already had a really close mate in Mitch Maguire heading that way.”
“I got the feeling from speaking to the club that there is a great culture already building and a good prospect of success going forwards which I am very excited to be a part of heading into 2021.”
“My primary goal heading into next season is to be a part of some team success at Westies and make finals. I hope to be able to do this by adding some experience and leadership to the team, and be a part of a club culture that is inclusive and connected.”
We welcome Lucas to the West Adelaide Football Club!
The club has also been informed that Andre Parrella and Stuart Taverner will not be continuing with the football club in 2021. We wish them all the best in the future.
