The West Adelaide Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of 18 year old Giants Academy member, Lachie Squire.
The big bodied and highly talented midfielder is 183cm tall and tips the scales at 87kg.
Football manager Wayne Siekman said, “Lachie is excited to join the Bloods as he believes the club is in a great position to help him continue to develop in 2020.”
Based in Canberra, Lachie was a member of the GWS Academy and made his NEAFL debut in 2018. With the uncertainty of Covid-19 on NEAFL football, Lachie made the decision to move to South Australia to continue to play regular football. There were a number of AFL clubs interested in the versatile midfielder prior to the 2019 draft but unfortunately Lachie was not selected.
When asked why Lachie chose West Adelaide he said, “West Adelaide have been extremely supportive of my football aspirations, and it’s clear that they are a culture driven club that cares about their players. This has made me want to be apart of the club and a competition with such a strong football history.”
Squire has great ability in the air and at ground level and is an adaptable player who can run through the midfield as well as up forward.
In 2019 Lachie averaged 5 clearances, 7 tackles and 17 disposals over 12 games.
Lachie has now arrived in Adelaide and will be in quarantine for 14 days and will then join training.
Welcome to the Bloods Lachie!
